What couples ask before booking a wedding DJ in Ottawa.
How far ahead should I book?
For weddings, 6 to 12 months is ideal. Summer Saturdays go fast. Private events and club nights often work on shorter notice. When in doubt, grab a call and I'll tell you straight whether your date's open.
What does a wedding with you cost?
Every wedding is a little different: hours, venue size, ceremony + reception, and add-ons like uplighting. I quote each wedding on a quick call once I know the shape of your day: hours, venue and how much of the day you want covered.
How do payments work?
A 50% deposit locks your date and quoted price. The remaining 50% is due 2 weeks before the wedding. Pay however works for you, and the full schedule is written into your quote and contract.
Do you travel outside Ottawa?
Yes. Ottawa, Gatineau and the valley are home turf. Farther out, travel is built into your quote. I'm in Ottawa from the first wedding in May to the last in October, Medellín the rest of the year, and I take destination weddings.
What do I get on the day?
I am your DJ and MC on the night. Sound sized to your room is arranged and confirmed in your quote, with a planning call and a written run sheet. At Lago and Le Belvédère the house system is used. The grand entrance, speeches and first dance are cued and on time.
What happens after we book?
You get a planning call to build your timeline, and your must-play / do-not-play lists. Setup takes about 1 to 2 hours, ballpark. Then I run the night.
Do you MC the wedding?
A friend or family member who knows both families usually works best for intros and speeches. I handle announcements so they are not working all night, and I take the mic all night if you want me to. The best nights also have a day-of coordinator.
What does your mixing sound like?
Clean and quick. Barely any sound effects, remixes that lift the energy without changing the song, and nothing overstays: a verse and a chorus, then on to the next. A real sing-along plays all the way through.
What music do you play?
I play whatever your crowd responds to: tech house and afro house at the core, with Top 40, hip hop, R&B, Latin, reggaeton, country and throwbacks on top, in English and Spanish. I read the floor live instead of following a script.
You hand over a must-play list and a do-not-play list, and the night is built inside them. Guests can send requests live at djseanchi.com/request, and anything that clashes with your plan gets a polite pass. Clean edits are available for family events.
Are you insured?
Yes, I carry year-round liability insurance. Backup gear comes to every wedding. In eight years I haven't needed the full backup, but it always travels. The Insurance, COI and SOCAN guide has the full breakdown.
How do we check if our date is open?
Use the date checker at the top of this page, text or call 604 968 7078, or book a 30 minute call at calendly.com/sean-chi6/30min. I reply within 48 hours with a straight answer on whether your date is open and whether I cover your area.
There is no deposit to enquire, and the call doesn't hold your date. A 50% deposit does, once you have your quote.
