E18teen is a run of smaller rooms built into a heritage building, not one ballroom, so every room is a different sound problem. I ask which room or combination you have booked before I build the sound plan.

I keep cocktails in the Fireplace Room or Wine Rooms warm in tone. Upstairs offers the most dancing space after dinner clears.

In a close-quarters room I scale the sound so it fills the floor without flattening conversation at the tables. Arrivals, speeches and dancing follow one plan.

Dance-floor lighting is arranged to suit the room, kept low and warm so an elegant Market room never turns into a nightclub.

I plan for six spaces: small and large wine rooms booked together or apart, the Fireplace Room, smaller lower fireplace room and Upper Dining Area, the largest single room. Confirm your room combination before I plan sound and lighting.

Capacities are 12 in the Small Wine Room, 32 in combined Wine Rooms, around 30 in the lounge-style Fireplace Room and around 62 upstairs. A full buyout lists up to 130 seated or 175 standing. Confirm your date's capacity; I scale sound to it.

Yes. 18 York Street dates to 1876, in Second Empire style, among the Market's oldest remaining stone buildings. It later housed the Institut canadien-français d'Ottawa; the restaurant opened in 2001. I size the setup for the heritage room.
