Indian wedding DJ in Ottawa

5 min readUpdated October 24, 2026

I DJ Indian and South Asian weddings in Ottawa as an open-format DJ. I mix bhangra and Bollywood with current hits, and your families help me build the list. A dhol player for the baraat is booked separately.

Key takeaways

  • Bhangra and Bollywood sit next to current hits, so every age has a song.
  • Your parents and cousins help me build the must-play list.
  • A dhol player for the baraat is a separate booking. I time the music around them.
  • A friend or family member who knows both families works best for intros.

What an Indian wedding needs from the DJ

Indian weddings are long, loud and full of family. That is the fun part. The DJ job is to keep the sound ready for each moment and the dance floor full in between.

Here are the moments I plan around most. Your wedding may have all of them or only a few.

Moments I plan around at an Indian wedding
MomentWhat happensWhat I do
BaraatThe groom's side arrives with dancing and drumsI line up the sound and the cue with your dhol player, then start the music when the baraat ends.
MilniThe two families greet each otherI make the announcement so both sides know where to stand, and I play something soft.
SangeetIts own night, or part of the weekendIf I am booked for it, I play the dance sets and cue the family performances.
Grand entranceStart of the receptionA Bollywood or Punjabi track for the couple, then their names.
Bhangra circleThe dance floor, any timeA dhol-heavy track, and I let it run while the circle forms.
Not every Indian wedding runs the same

A Punjabi Sikh wedding, a Gujarati wedding and a Tamil wedding all run differently. Tell me yours. I leave the ceremony itself to the priest or the granthi.

The music I mix

Here is the kind of music I mix in. Your list comes first, and these are only starting points.

Music I mix at an Indian wedding
StyleArtists and songs
Bhangra and PunjabiPunjabi MC "Mundian To Bach Ke", Diljit Dosanjh, AP Dhillon "Brown Munde", Sidhu Moose Wala
Bollywood party"Chaiyya Chaiyya", "Nagada Sang Dhol", "Balam Pichkari", "London Thumakda", "Kala Chashma"
ThrowbacksDaler Mehndi "Tunak Tunak Tun", "Gallan Goodiyaan", "Badtameez Dil"
Current hitsTop 40, hip hop and Afro house, so the younger guests stay out there too

I am not the expert on your music. Your families are. I am the one who blends it with the songs your friends know, and keeps the floor moving.

How I work it

I do not play a block of Indian music and then a block of everything else. I weave them together. A bhangra track bridges into a hip hop song, and a Bollywood favourite drops in right after.

The older guests usually dance early. I put the songs your parents love in the first hour of dancing. The louder current stuff comes later.

If you want a deeper Bollywood list, I have a guide to Bollywood wedding songs.

The best nights also have a day-of coordinator.

How we build the playlist

I can mix anything. I just need your help with the playlist. Here is how it goes.

  1. Send me your must-plays and no-plays

Even five songs each is a good start.

  2. Ask your families

Ask a parent, an aunt and a cousin for their favourites.

  3. I sort it by time in the night

I flag any gaps and tell you what I would add.

  4. We lock it on a call

A final call the week of your wedding is there if you want one.

Questions people ask

Are you an Indian wedding specialist?

No, and I will not pretend to be. I am an open-format DJ who mixes bhangra and Bollywood with current hits. Your families know the details better than I do, so they help me build the list. I read the room and keep the floor moving for every age.

Who should MC an Indian wedding?

A friend or family member who knows both families works best for intros and speeches, because they can say every name right. I handle the announcements so they are not working all night. If you want me on the mic all night, I will do that. The best nights also have a day-of coordinator.

Can you work with a dhol player at the baraat?

Yes. A dhol player is booked on their own, and I coordinate. We agree when they start, how long they play and where the sound needs to be. I keep my music quiet until they finish, then start the next track so nobody feels a gap.

Do you play both Hindi and Punjabi music?

Yes. I mix Hindi Bollywood tracks with Punjabi bhangra hits. Some families want one more than the other, so tell me the split. I will not guess. Your list tells me what each side expects, and I read the room to see what the guests want.

How do we build the playlist?

Send me your must-plays and your no-plays. Then ask a parent, an aunt and a cousin for their favourites. I sort everything by time in the night and flag any gaps. We can talk it through on a planning call, and a final call the week of your wedding is there if you want one.

What does an Indian wedding DJ cost in Ottawa?

I quote after a short call. I need your hours, your venue and how much of the day you want me to cover. Dhol players, dancers and live singers are booked and paid separately. Talking to me does not need a deposit, and you get the quote in writing before you book.
