Getting Married at Lago? DJ notes from Sean Chi.

The room, in one paragraph.
Lago sits right on Dow's Lake, in the pavilion that took over the lake's original boathouse footprint after the 1931 building came down in 1979. It runs across two very different floors: the main restaurant downstairs is a big open room, over 7,000 square feet with wall-to-wall lake views, that seats up to 250 or opens to about 440 for a standing reception. The Vista Room upstairs is the tighter, view-forward space, with its own panoramic windows over Dow's Lake and Queen Juliana Park, built for a more intimate crowd of up to 110 seated or around 220 for cocktails. Sound and power.
Both floors run house AV that is plug-and-play: Lago's speakers are already installed, and Sean plugs a controller, laptop, one side or fill speaker and backup mics into what's there rather than building a system from scratch. The house lighting is strong enough that Sean rarely needs to bring uplights. Downstairs, he builds sound to fill the big open room without fighting the wall of glass. Upstairs in the Vista Room, he sizes the system down so it stays full and warm instead of echoey, angling the mains to avoid the glass and parallel walls that cause early reflections and turn a clean mix into mud.
Where the floor goes.
Sean tends to place the dance floor where the energy in the room actually gathers, so the dancing has a real centre of gravity. Downstairs that usually means keeping the floor clear of the wall of windows. In the Vista Room, the tighter footprint keeps the floor and the crowd close together, and a tight room like that fills faster and feels alive sooner because everyone can see the energy a few feet away.
A timeline that works here.
Confirm the exact plan with your coordinator, but Lago's own day tends to run guests out onto the balcony or the patio during room turnover, with the upstairs patio and Umbrella Bar covering most of it if it rains. Confirm the room's end time and any sound cutoff with your coordinator so the last songs are planned around the real schedule, not an assumption.
Ceremony and cocktail notes.
Lago's spaces are built around the reception rather than a dedicated ceremony room, so confirm ceremony options directly with the venue before booking. If the ceremony does run on-site, Sean brings a separate wireless setup for it so the sound doesn't compete with the room being used for the reception.
What to ask the venue.
- Which floor your reception is on, and whether your guest count fits it comfortably.
- What the current parking plan looks like for guests and vendors, since daytime parking can get tight if a boat is moving in or out of the dock.
- Whether the ceremony can run on-site or needs to happen elsewhere.

The two floors are genuinely two different jobs. Downstairs needs sound big enough to fill an open room without fighting the glass; upstairs needs a system sized down so the Vista Room stays warm instead of echoey. Confirm which floor you have before assuming either setup.
